FTTx Components

FTTx solutions play a more and more crucial role as an alternative to the current copper-based system. For instance, Fiber To The Home (FTTH) or Fiber To The Premises (FTTP) provides broadband data connections to homes and offices, directly fed with optical fibers. It can be realized in several different technical forms.

The active part of the network solution contains optoelectronic components like transceivers while the passive part of the networks is based on optical splitters which distribute the signals to the users. The system approach is dependent on the usage requirements like download and upload bandwidths.

Duplexers

A short-haul communication, bidirectional duplexer is one of the active components needed for the optical network system. Our active solution is based on monolithically integrated vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) and p-i-n photodetector devices.

The VCSEL has an intensity distribution matching the circular fiber geometry which ensures a high VCSEL-fiber coupling efficiency. The oxide-confined VCSEL can operate in the single- or multi-mode regime depending on its active diameter.

The geometry and the layer structure of the p-i-n photodetector are optimized for high-speed communication system demands. Both the p-i-n photodiode and the VCSEL as parts of the duplexer are designed to have bandwidths exceeding several GHz for Gbit/s data transmission over multimode and singlemode fiber.

Photeon has the possibility to provide optical components for both the active and passive parts of the network.

Splitters
